Today’s Special

What is a Grief Kitchen?

How does Grief Kitchen work?

Grief is a 360°, fully sensory experience. Cultures around the world mourn through traditional recipes, celebrate life with special delicacies, and honor their grief through shared meals.

A Grief Kitchen is an experiential therapy session facilitated by a licensed professional counselor to support emotional processing and the creation of new meaning beyond loss.

STEP 1. Prepare & Plan

Connect with us at Trellis. We will learn more about your needs, and how we can honor your loved on through Grief Kitchen. This will include intake, and identifying a recipe or meal that is right for this process.

STEP 3. Cook

Time to get down to business. In a kitchen of your choice (most folks do this at home), we will cook the meal while processing some of those thoughts and feelings as they surface in real time. The sensory experience of cooking connects to the final step…

STEP 2. "Mis en Place"

When things feel chaotic and messy in our grief, applying this culinary principle can be just what’s needed to organize our thoughts and feelings. We will also talk about what to do when all the mis en place in the world doesn’t cover grief’s curve balls.

STEP 4. Share

Sharing is integral to our human existence. Sharing thoughts and feelings in therapy; Sharing the meal we’ve created with each other, and even others if so invited, can open the floor for sharing stories, memories and creation of a healing narrative that integrates loss with life.
