• Trellis is located at 501 E. San Antonio Avenue, Boerne, Texas 78006.

You’ll find us across Blanco Road from the old City Hall building, and discretely tucked in a block away from First United Methodist Church and St. John Lutheran Church.

A map and tour of our grounds are available on the “About” page!

  • Telehealth services offer convenience in scheduling, eliminating traffic and providing you with the comforts of home.

If we decide that your sessions are suitable for telehealth, I will send you a secure link through your client portal.

When you receive your email or text appointment reminder, you will have the option to click “Join now”

Make sure that you are in a stationary, private location free from distractions during your session.

  • Yes! Trellis has an inviting 1950s abode intentionally designed with comfort and modern amenities in mind. Some of these include complimentary refreshments and guest wifi, a spacious work table in the gathering room, and nearly 1 acre of lush, creek-side walking grounds.

Additionally in house, we collaborate with Girl with Grit™ to bring life skills and social support to all.

  • First, you can expect affirmation that you have taken the first step toward support. Woohoo!

When you arrive, you’ll be offered light refreshments and shown to your comfortable seating.

*Minor clients must be accompanied by a legal guardian for the first part of their initial session. If the child is comfortable, the second part of the session will take place 1-1 and parent(s) can wait in the waiting room or vehicle.

Before your first session, I will have reviewed all of your initial documentation and screening forms-thanks for filling these out digitally! These forms make our time together as efficient as possible.

After introductions are made, and before any other conversation takes place, I will review the Trellis Practice Policies, Informed Consent information, and other important information. You will have a copy of these documents in your client portal.

Then we will get to know each other a little better, and decide on things like goals for our sessions, and a shared-decision treatment plan that provides a roadmap for our time together.

Congratulations- you’ve completed your first session!

  • There’s a reoccurring theme here…it depends.

Therapy is not designed to be forever. A typical course of therapy lasts between 6-12 months, but some clients find fulfillment after 3 months or so, and some find benefit taking a more scenic route with their sessions.

Much depends on what kind of therapy we’re doing (EMDR, CPT, etc.), and how often we’re meeting. For example, if we are meeting every 2-3 weeks for 50 minutes, your course of therapy may take longer to see a benefit because the cadence is more spread out.

As an alternative, Trellis offers “intensives” which are sessions designed to be longer, or high frequency in order to amplify the impact and engage in more targeted work. This is a great alternative for individuals who have hectic work schedules with intermittent time off, or teens trying to heal outside of extra-curriculars and school obligations.

  • At Trellis, we believe you are an essential part of your child’s Trellis and support system. In fact, you are the one providing consent to their care with us, and by reading this you are already taking important steps to show you care.

That said, we will not talk to you about your child, in front of your child. Children (including teens) deserve as much respect as adults, and if you wouldn’t like to be talked about, well…you get the idea.

We WILL offer a collaborative care session for just you and the counselor to review goals, approaches utilized, and progress, along with any other feedback you care to provide from the home front. Your participation is important because we only get to visit with your child for about an hour every week or two. Typically, these sessions take place every 4-6 sessions we have with the child, so that a meaningful amount of time and work can take place- otherwise, we may not have much to update you on.

Collaborative care sessions can take place by phone, virtually, or in-person. Trellis counselors are parents too, and we understand being busy, while desiring to affirm and support your child’s care.

If there are critical developments, such as issues regarding self-harm, or mandated reporting situations (see informed consent), you will be notified as soon as possible.

  • Professional counseling or therapy services have several key differences than confiding in say a friend or your hairdresser:

    1. Licensed Professional Counselors are obligated to both state and federal ethical and legal regulations, which are ever-evolving to maximize benefit to you, as the client. Counselors do not give advice, or direction. Counselors provide objective viewpoints and use professionally-researched techniques to benefit your mental health.

    2. Professional counseling services are confidential, which is a higher, legal standard of privacy. This standard doesn’t depend on popularity, likeability or any other transient issues. Confidentiality is something that we take extremely seriously and is one of the cornerstones of therapeutic value.

    3. Counselors have gone to school for several years beyond the bachelor-level of higher education, and have earned a related Master’s degree.

    4. In the state of Texas, counselors must complete a minimum of 3,000 counseling hours under supervision of a credentialed counseling supervisor. This is after whatever required practicums or internships their masters program required before graduation.

    5. Counselors also complete ongoing training in our chosen fields, review updated research on best practices, and engage in advocacy-based service to our communities.

In other words, there is a LOT to the care and compassion that we professionally provide. Friends, family, pastors, and others can provide especially meaningful support, but their perspective is subjective to their relationship to you. At Trellis, we believe that these individuals are part of your Trellis, and encourage (to the extent that it’s beneficial), interpersonal support.

  • The short answer- it depends on what kind of therapy we’re doing and the length of our sessions. Session fees are the same regardless of in-person or telehealth format and are due at the time of session. Most clients prefer to keep their payment method on file for convenient automated billing.

I do not bill insurance of any kind. I believe your care decisions are between you and I, and I do not want to be limited based on insurance restrictions.

I have also opted out of Medicare-based reimbursement structures.

As of January 2024, here are our most common session type and fees:

    30-minute preliminary consult- $100

    50-minute individual therapy- $175

90-minute crisis therapy (established clients exclusively)- $250

30-minute collaborative care session (with another member of your care team or with parents of minor clients)- $125

*Sliding scale rates are available with Kimberly, on an availability basis. Contact to learn more.
